God made His summits with a double pinch of magnetic appeal. While some people are satisfied with simply gazing at their beauty from a distance – others seem powerfully drawn to conquer them.
Valley dwellers look at climbers and see people who take unreasonable risks. Summit climbing is dangerous. It’s uncomfortable. It stretches you to your limits.
But Summit climbers know something that those whose feet are firmly rooted in valley top soil have not discovered. The view, the feeling of exhilaration – yes, even the hard trip up – are worth it.
God followers can greatly benefit from studying the habits of summit climbers because they remind us of what God has called us to do. He has called us to be climbers – not valley dwellers.
"Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus."
